What You Need
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Roll20 account | A free account at roll20.net is all you need. Paid tiers aren't required for players. |
| Discord account | Free at discord.com. Voice is on Discord; Roll20's built-in voice is off. |
| Computer | A laptop or desktop with a modern browser (Chrome or Firefox recommended). Tablets work but are fiddly. |
| Headset or microphone | A headset is strongly preferred — speakers cause echo for everyone else. |
| Internet | Stable enough for voice and a browser. Camera not required. |
How Sessions Run
- Join the Discord voice channel [10] minutes before start time.
- Open the Roll20 game from the link in our Discord, and check your sheet loads.
- We start on time. A quick recap, then into it.
- Breaks: [e.g. a 10-minute break around the halfway mark].
- Wrap-up: we finish with a few minutes for XP, loot and scheduling.
Character Sheets
[Choose one and state it clearly — e.g. 'Build your character directly in Roll20 using the D&D 5E by Roll20 sheet. I'll help during Session Zero.' or 'Build on D&D Beyond and import with the Beyond20 browser extension.']
Discord Etiquette
- Use push-to-talk or noise suppression. Mute when you step away.
- Keep the voice channel for play during sessions.
- Use
#table-talkfor out-of-character chat during play. - Use
#schedulingfor availability and absences. - Character questions for the DM can go in a DM or in your character's private channel.
Roll20 Tips
- Click the dice icon on your sheet to roll — no need to type commands.
- Only move your own token, and only on your turn.
- If something breaks, refresh the page first. It fixes most problems.
- Roll20's own help centre covers most questions.
